The Flight Instructor Rating is a valuable rating to all operators including charter, airlines and flight schools. The skills and airmanship developed in the FIR course you will use throughout your career - even as a training and checking captain at an airline.
Best suited for those with a real passion for aviation and teaching. Our experienced instructor trainer team will develop your skills as a pilot, presenter and Flight Instructor both on the ground and in the air. The SFC FIR syllabus involves scenario-based training where you will learn how to handle different types of student personalities and common errors.
A key component of the course is ground theory for the Principles and Methods of Instruction for the CASA PIRC Examination along with short classes on Threat and Error Management and an overview of the CASA Non-Technical Skills regulations to ensure you graduate the program as a well-rounded Instructor.
Top performers of the SFC FIR program are likely to be offered an interview with SFC for a role as a Grade 3 Flight Instructor. All Grade 2 and 3 instructors at SFC are graduates of this program.

The exam will test your knowledge of the completed course units. You have 2 hours to complete the exam, and you must achieve at least 70%. Exam costs are included in your tuition fee.
Before undertaking your flight test to obtain your Flight Instructor Rating, you must first sit your CASA Pilot Instructor Rating (PIRC) exam.

Applications are open year-round, with quarterly intakes.
A chance for you to visit the clubhouse and college campus and check out our training fleet in person. A Course Advisor will explain all relevant information about the Flight Instructor Rating and answer any questions you may have.
Club Membership
SFC is a non-for-profit flight school, and all students are required to hold a Full Club Membership. This will give you access to participate in flyaways, club events and discounts.

Screening Interview
During your Screening Interview you will meet with individuals from different departments within SFC. The objectives of the interview are to assess motivation, discuss application results and course requirements. You will need to provide
proof of your identity and your Commercial Pilot Licence (original form of ID required: Passport or Birth Certificate if applying for a VET Student Loan.)
