ABOUT

Share your passion for flying.

Start your career fostering student's progression, consolidating your own knowledge and gain the skills to be a confident and effective airborne teacher. The Flight Instructor Rating is a valuable rating to all operators including charter, airlines and flight schools. The skills and airmanship developed in the FIR course you will use throughout your career - even as a training and checking captain at an airline.

Best suited for those with a real passion for aviation and teaching. Our experienced instructor trainer team will develop your skills as a pilot, presenter and Flight Instructor both on the ground and in the air. The SFC FIR syllabus involves scenario-based training where you will learn how to handle different types of student personalities and common errors.

A key component of the course is ground theory for the Principles and Methods of Instruction for the CASA PIRC Examination along with short classes on Threat and Error Management and an overview of the CASA Non-Technical Skills regulations to ensure you graduate the program as a well-rounded Instructor.

Top performers of the SFC FIR program are likely to be offered an interview with SFC for a role as a Grade 3 Flight Instructor. All Grade 2 and 3 instructors at SFC are graduates of this program.

Upon successful completion of this course you will:

Is this course right for me?

Pursuing a Flight Instructor Rating is a significant step in your aviation career, and it's essential to determine if this course aligns with your career goals and aspirations.

I want to build flying hours and progress my career.

I have completed my CPL and am wanting to gain experience as I build my hours prior to entering the next stage of my career.

I want to teach future pilots.

I would love to be able to teach a student from day 1 all the way through to achieving a licence. I feel it would be a rewarding and exciting experience.

I want to join the airlines.

I want to gain experience and enough hours to be able to apply for a job in an airline. Maybe one day becoming a Check and Training Captain in an airline.

I can commit to a full time study load.
"SFC really took me further in my flying career with the Flight Instructor Rating. I became more confident in my own teaching and presenting skills, flying ability and it made me overall a much more professional pilot."
